I'm decompressing from my PhD candidacy orals which I passed on Monday. I got up early this morning and on CNN's American Morning I saw Carol Costello report on a study using the psychedelic compound psiilocybin at John Hopkins University.
The study which I have talked about in a post a couple of years ago "Mystic mushrooms spawn magic event" -- showed that psiilocybin, the active ingredient of the "Mexican Magic Mushroom" can produce in some of the cancer patient subjects. experiences indistinguishable from the classic mystical experience as first systematically mapped out by the American psychologist William James.
It is also noteworthy that the initial benefits of the experience have by their own reports to have lasting benefits on the life of the terminally ill subjects in the study.
The clip begins with a "flashback" to the Sixties and Timothy Leary describing in 1965 his experiences with psiilocybin in Mexico in 1960 and its effects on this life. You can watch the video by visiting the link at the top of this post.
