Free wi-fi cafes & other wireless hotspots | MetroFreeFi.com

Metrofreewifilogo_1

As a follow-up to my last post about Google's interest in providing "free wi-fi", people pointed out that you can find free wifi now in most major cities (and even some mid-sized towns). There is Free wi-fi cafes & other wireless hotspots  from MetroFreeFi.com. The site provides a great guide with maps to free wi-fi hotspots in many local areas.

Past the publicly advertised free wireless hotspots, I find free wi-fi signals bouncing around almost everywhere I go. It is the wi-fi provided by people who plugged their modem or router into a wireless access point and are broadcasting the web to everyone in their immediate vicinity. Of course there is the question: should I or shouldn't I use the free wi-fi. PC Magazine's famous columnist John C. Dvorak ponders this in "The Right Analogy for Wireless Signal Spill."
