StressEraser is a wearable biofeedback device relax your body and calm your mind by guiding you to change your breathing and your focus.
When you want to relax you start by inserting your left index finger into StressEraser.. This deceptively small device then decodes and produces a visualization that represents the influence of the stimulating & pacifying nerves.
The activity of the stimulating nerves is displayed using triangle symbols (representing the mind), while the activity of the pacifying nerves is displayed using square symbols (rep resting the body and its emotions).
This data-mapping metaphor is simple to grasp. Using it, you learn to change you're breathing rhythm to stimulate specific nerves to quiet your mind and body .
The Press on this mind-gadget has been amazing: Wired Magazine's Brian Lam tested the StressEraser in Wired's Gadget Lab. He said in a January 17 review:
"I have high blood pressure, a type-A personality, and a deadline-driven job. So I needed this biofeedback machine, which trained me to chill out like a yogic master... After just five minutes, a day in the office felt like a stroll on the beach. [Rating: 9/10]"
Samantha Sordyl reviewed StressEraser in The Washington Post and said in part:
For six weeks, I tried the StressEraser three or four times a week, up to three times a day. I got the hang of slowing down my system pretty easily; my forehead, neck and shoulders felt more relaxed after each session. I felt like I'd just awakened from a nap, but I was not groggy.
The StressEraser as a concept was developed by Helcor (the company that makes the device) co-founder, Michael Wood. Five years ago, Michael was working as the SVP of Software Development at a major enterprise software company. As a result of his stressful job, he had a panic attack.
After trying a variety of what he considered unsatisfactory treatments, Wood -- an already successful inventor spent four and a half years developing StressEraser.
Researchers have shown a lot of interest in using StressEraser. Clinical psychologist Stefan G. Hofmann at Boston University for example, is currently conducting trials on using StressEraser for Generalized Anxiety problems. Other researchers are performing trials on the device's original use in treating panic attacks.
