The Brain and Learning: Free Brain Teasers & Memory-Stretchers on The Brain Connection

I wrote about BrainConnection in a post back in July 2005 titled, "BrainConnection: Brain Science in Plain English." Well since I wrote that, their website has developed rapidly and now they have an entire section on "Brain Teasers" which makes learning the science not only fun but good for your brain as well.
Here is how they introduce this feature of their site:
The brain is not a passive recipient of learning. In order to learn new information the brain must be able to focus on important cues and hold them in its short-term memory. The games in this category are designed to exercise the processes involved in attending to and remembering information.
The brain teasers are divided into two categories. The first are called "Memory Attention" and the other group is called "Sound Discrimination.".
The "Memory Attention" brain-stretching games in this category "are designed to exercise the processes involved in attending to and remembering information." They include such challenging brain puzzlers as Dominos, Memory, Dunk the Doggie, Rapid Naming and several others.
The "Sound Discrimination" brain-exercising games found here are designed: "to exercise the neural pathways involved in distinguishing subtle differences in sound, this group of games works at training the basic fundamentals necessary for language, listening, and reading. Improvements in these types of activities have been associated with improvements in academic performance and reading." They include fun titles such as Phonic Pop, Letter Match, Tone-A-Matic and Reading Rover.
You can try these out for yourself at the link at the top of this post.
